Tourist Travel Requirements for a Nigeria Visa for Canadian Citizens
Passport
You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information page of your passport. Your passport must:
- Have at least one blank visa page. Amendments and endorsement pages cannot be used to fulfill this requirement
- Not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered in any other way
Photographs
You must provide one colour, passport type photograph that meets the following criteria:
- Be taken within the last three months and printed on high quality photo paper
- Be taken against an all white background free of shadows
- Be 51 mm by 51 mm in size
- Provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression
- You may wear neither glasses nor headwear except for religious purposes
- Your photo should not be affixed to your application and it may not display evidence of adhesive or staples
Visa Application Form
You must complete the visa application and pay for the visa fee online at: http://portal.immigration.gov.ng/ You must submit:
- A printed copy of the completed application
- Acknowledgement slip
- The payment confirmation
Please note: the signature on the visa application form must match the signature on the applicant's passport.
VisaConnection Order Form
You must provide one completed VisaConnection Order Form. The form must:
- Include a valid email address and payment information
- Include your signature in blue or black ink
Vaccination Certificate
You must provide your Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
Proof of Sufficient Funds
A letter of guarantee from the traveller's bank is required.
Proof of Travel Arrangements
You must provide proof of travel arrangements for the duration of your trip. Details of your intended arrangements must:
- Include a copy of an itinerary or e-ticket showing entry and exit date
- Show your full name as printed in your passport
Hotel Confirmation
You must provide a confirmation of your hotel accommodations. Your confirmation must:
- Include your intended dates of stay
- Show your full name
- Include a photocopy of the hotel manager's Nigerian ID card
Letter of Invitation
If traveling to visit friends or family, then you must provide an invitation letter. The letter must:
- State the relationship between the applicant and the inviter
- Include the purpose of the visit and the address where the traveler will reside while in Nigeria
- Be signed
- Include a copy of the host's official photo ID from Nigeria
Please note that personal invitations for visitor’s visa issued from Nigeria by Nigerians residing outside of Canada must be accompanied by a photocopy of Nigerian Passport and evidence of genuine and effective link or relationship either by marriage, kinship or business. Invitations from other resident aliens in Nigeria must be accompanied by a photocopy of the valid residence or work permit in Nigeria and a photocopy of information page of their passport.
Letter of Employment
If you are currently employed, you must provide an employment letter. The letter must:
- State that you are traveling strictly for tourism reasons
- Provide your vacation dates from work
Additional Documents Surcharge

Supplementary Documents
Applicants on special assignments such as religious or evangelical activities require Temporary Work Permit (TWP) approval and church visitors are required to provide an Immigration Approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria.

Business Cover Letter
You are required to provide a Business Introduction Letter from your Canadian-based company. All letters must be printed on company letterhead that displays an Canadian mailing address. Use the sample Business Introduction Letter provided at https://visaconnection.com/forms?formname=Canada-Business-Cover-Letter-Sample.pdf using the exact language and format provided in order to prevent a rejection and possible delays with your visa request.

- Be written on company letterhead
- Include the full local address and phone number of the organization or person to be visited
- Request the same validity of visa as in the Business Introduction Letter.
- Specify the number of entries you are requesting for your visa
- You must also include a copy of the inviter's passport identification page

When is the best time to apply for my Nigeria visa?
The best time to apply for your Nigeria visa is 1-2 months before your travel date. -
Do I have to send you my passport to get a Nigeria visa? Is it safe to send a passport?
Yes. You will need to send your actual passport, not a copy of it. The Nigeria visa is stamped on your passport and will become one of your passport pages. Visa request cannot be processed without your original passport. Because of the importance of your passport, we strongly suggest that you send your application in a secure way, using a traceable courier such as FedEx.
